This is a story about two broken characters who have to piece back their lives.I loved the relationship that grows between Tristan and Elizabeth. There are flashback chapters that lead up to the “big reveal” at the end. He’s barely treading water himself, and Elizabeth slowly turns into the one bright spot in his day. He lost his wife and son in a car accident and he hasn’t been the same since. The things about Tristan is that he has reason to want to be alone with his dog, Zeus. Elizabeth soon learns there’s more to Tristan than what the town gossips say, and starts relying on him to drag her out of her grief. That neighbor is Tristan and the town is oddly very judgmental about him just because he’s not friends with anyone else in their small town and works for a guy who sells magical items. She soon meets a neighbor who the town has deemed a recluse and violent. She moves back into town, into her old home, after being away for a while. She decides that she wants to try to move on, but it’s not easy. Elizabeth lost her husband and the only thing holding her together through her grief is her daughter, Emma.

This story is about Elizabeth and Tristan. But my God, it felt good to lie to ourselves. If it wasn’t for the awesome, 70% of this book, and was more like the last 30%? Well, I don’t think I would have liked this book as much.

There’s nothing wrong with that, but it’s just not really my thing. It turned into a bit of a soap at the end. Don’t even think about starting this book without a box of tissues nearby? I loved… most of this book. Then perhaps we could finally remember how to breathe. We both wanted to put together the shattered pieces of our yesterdays.

I had to accept the wreckage that lived inside of him, because it also lived inside of me. It’s easy to judge a man because of his past. “He’s cruel.” “He’s cold.” “He’s damaged.” Amazon | Barnes and Noble | Book Depository | Goodreads SYNOPSIS
